Ribe Viking Market

Ribe Viking Market is an international historical reenactment event that transforms the Ribe VikingeCenter into an authentic 9th-century settlement for one week each year. The festival brings together over 500 participants from across Europe, including warriors, traders, and craftsmen who live and work in reconstructed tent camps. Unlike the museum's standard daily operations, this annual market is the largest event of its kind in Denmark, focusing on the historical accuracy of Viking-age trade and daily life.

Visitors can witness large-scale battles between warrior groups, falconry demonstrations with birds of prey, and Viking horsemanship displays. The international marketplace provides access to handmade goods - ranging from precious metal jewelry and hand-woven textiles to weapons forged on-site by specialized blacksmiths. Additionally, interactive zones allow the public to try their hand at archery, coin striking, or wood carving under the guidance of instructors.

The festival's chronology begins early in the week with the opening of the craftsmen’s market and the setting up of camps, making it the best time to observe traditional production processes. As the weekend approaches, the intensity of events increases, culminating on Saturday and Sunday with major battle demonstrations and equestrian shows in the central arena. The festival officially concludes on Sunday afternoon, following the final warrior confrontations and the last trade auctions in the market.
