The Saint Olav Drama Festival
Event Highlights
Short description
The Saint Olav Drama Festival (officially Olsokdagene på Stiklestad) is Norway’s largest and oldest historical open-air festival, held annually in late July at the sacred site where Viking King Olav Haraldsson fell in 1030 and later became Norway’s patron saint.
The event’s most famous attraction is The Saint Olav Drama (Spelet om Heilag Olav), a massive theatrical spectacle performed on the original battlefield. Beyond the core drama, the festival features a vibrant cultural program that includes concerts, art exhibitions, historical lectures, and a large medieval market, all centered around the 12th-century Stiklestad Church and the adjacent National Cultural Centre.
