La Tomatina – World Biggest Tomato Fight
Event Highlights
Short description
La Tomatina is the world’s biggest food fight, an annual Spanish festival held in the small town of Buñol, near Valencia. It is, at its core, a chaotic yet friendly battle where thousands of participants throw over 100 metric tons of overripe tomatoes at each other for exactly one hour, turning the streets into a sea of red pulp.
While the main event is the tomato fight itself, the most famous attraction leading up to the chaos is the Palo Jabón: a slippery, greased pole with a prized Spanish ham attached to the top. The battle officially begins only after someone successfully climbs the pole and knocks the ham down, a spectacle of comical, messy teamwork that builds the energy for the legendary tomato throw. The evening before also features a popular paella-cooking contest and lively street parties.
