“The Great Sunday” Festival
Event Highlights
Short description
The “The Great Sunday” National Tourism Festival (locally known as Duminica Mare) is a vibrant celebration of Moldovan heritage held annually in the picturesque village of Domulgeni, Florești. Scheduled to coincide with the Christian feast of Pentecost, the event transforms the village into a living museum where homes are decorated with walnut branches and floors are carpeted with fragrant field herbs. Visitors are invited to explore an authentic rural atmosphere, featuring guided tours of historic landmarks, traditional craft workshops—such as weaving and woodcarving—and folkloric performances that showcase the ancient rituals and songs of the Răut river basin.
The festival is equally famous for its culinary delights, as Domulgeni is widely recognized as the “village of traditional sausages” and smoked meats. Guests can indulge in a rich variety of local delicacies, including homemade pies, sarmale, and artisan honey, all prepared according to generations-old recipes. Combining a bustling gastronomic fair with a grand communal hora (traditional dance), the event offers a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the warmth of Moldovan hospitality and the enduring spirit of its rural traditions in a scenic, natural setting.
