Jauhar Mela – Rajput Heritage Festival

Jauhar Mela is an annual multi-day historical commemoration held in the spring at the historic Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan, India. The event honors the bravery of ancestral Rajput people and the historical jauhar (mass suicide by leaping into fire) performed by Rajput queens and women to protect their honor against invading forces (like Alauddin Khilji's Delhi Sultanate army in 1303 and Emperor Akbar's Mughal forces in 1567) .
The most famous example of such sacrifice is Queen Padmini, whose story was popularized worldwide through the epic box-office film Padmaavat.
