Khajuraho Dance Festival
Event Highlights
Short description
The Khajuraho Dance Festival is a world-renowned annual cultural celebration of Indian classical dance.
The festival is held at the magnificently illuminated Khajuraho Group of Temples, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. These temples are famous globally for their elaborate and detailed stone carvings, notably including a small percentage of celebrated erotic sculptures. These specific carvings are understood to symbolize Kama (desire) and the holistic, spiritual appreciation of life.
The festival’s greatest attraction is the spectacular series of nightly open-air performances, where India’s top exponents of classical styles—such as Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, and Kuchipudi—perform live. Beyond the mesmerizing main stage, the event also features complementary cultural activities, including a lively ‘Hunar Mela’ (craft fair) and local culinary stalls, all celebrating the rich heritage of the region.
