Intro

Smederevo Knights & Legends Festival (Vitezovi i Legende) is an international medieval reenactment event held within the stone walls of Smederevo Fortress, one of Southeastern Europe's largest flat fortifications. The gathering brings together historical reconstruction groups from multiple countries to replicate the military tactics, craftsmanship, and daily life of the 15th century. Visitors can explore authentic living-history camps, view period-accurate gear, and experience late-medieval Balkan culture firsthand.

Google Maps location of the main event activities can be found here.

Event Highlights

The main attraction of the festival is the full-contact knightly tournaments, where reenactors in heavy steel armor engage in unscripted single duels and group battles known as bohurts. Visitors can wander through a medieval marketplace where craftsmen like blacksmiths and potters demonstrate 15th-century trades using period tools.
The event also features interactive areas where the public can try archery, axe throwing, and handling weapon replicas. As dark falls, the focus shifts to theatrical siege reenactments, fire-twirling shows, and live concerts performed by medieval-folk musical ensembles.

Event Chronology

The festival's daily program follows a chronological progression from morning until night.
Activities begin in the morning with the opening of the medieval camp and the artisan marketplace, allowing early visitors to see living-history demonstrations. Around midday, the event transitions to family-oriented programming, featuring interactive archery workshops and soft-armor combat practice for children.
The main action takes place in the afternoon, when the arena hosts the heavy armor tournaments, tactical group battles, and equestrian demonstrations.
The schedule concludes at dusk and during the evening with dramatic, theatrical siege reenactments, followed by fire shows and live concerts after dark.

Tickets & Access Guide

Admission to the event requires a standard entry ticket, which can be easily purchased on-site at the ticket booths located right at the main entrance. The entry fee is budget-friendly, costing a few hundred Serbian Dinars (RSD), which grants full access to the fortress grounds and the tournament arenas.
To avoid the lines that usually form at the gates around midday, it is best to arrive during the morning hours.

Insider Tips & Tricks

For the best view of the knight tournaments and the fortress layout, head up to the stone ramparts during the late afternoon.
The lighting provides an excellent backdrop with the Danube River behind the arena.
