Magdalena Festival is a nine-day celebration of the birth of Castellón de la Plana in eastern Spain. It recalls the city’s founding, when its inhabitants were granted permission in 1251 to move down from the Hill of Mary Magdalene to the site of the present-day city. Highlights include a pilgrimage to the old hillside site, a night parade of colorful lanterns, daily firecracker shows, and all kinds of street celebrations.

Las Fallas de Valencia is a massive celebration of creative destruction, where hundreds of satirical monuments are built solely to be burned to the ground. From the rhythmic roar of firecrackers to the ornate floral parades and the final, majestic inferno of La Cremà, this festival transforms the city into a surreal museum of mockery, ancient tradition, and ephemeral art.

The Moors & Christians Festival in Alcoy is a massive three-day reenactment of a 1276 battle between Moorish invaders and local forces. Featuring over 10,000 participants in opulent, high-budget costumes, the event is famous for its majestic parades and a deafening finale. The streets fill with gunpowder smoke from ancient firearms as the two armies clash, culminating in a legendary moment where a young boy representing Saint George “saves” the city from atop a medieval castle.

The Villajoyosa “Moors & Christians” Festival is a prestigious event commemorating the town’s 1538 victory over Muslim pirates. It uniquely transforms the coastline into a dramatic maritime theater, featuring the spectacular El Desembarco naval battle at dawn. Visitors can enjoy grand gala parades with opulent costumes, theatrical reenactments, and vibrant celebrations within the traditional “kabilas” along the beach.
